FIVE COLLEGE WOMEN'S STUDIES RESEARCH CENTER
A collaborative project of Amherst, Hampshire, Mount Holyoke, and Smith Colleges and the University of Massachusetts, Amherst

The Center invites applications for its RESEARCH ASSOCIATESHIPS for 2011-2012 from scholars and teachers at all levels of the educational system, as well as from artists, community organizers and political activists, both local and international. Associates are provided with offices in our spacious facility, faculty library privileges, and the collegiality of a diverse community of feminists. Research Associate applications are accepted for either a semester or the academic year. The Center supports projects in all disciplines so long as they focus centrally on women or gender. Research Associateships do not provide a stipend. We accept about 15-18 Research Associates per year.

Applicants should submit a project proposal (up to 4 pages), curriculum vitae, two letters of reference, and on-line application cover form. Applications received by February 7 (including letters of recommendation) will receive full consideration. "La Caixa" Foundation - Barcelona GSE Scholarships for students from emerging and developing countries

The "la Caixa" savings bank Foundation and the Barcelona GSE offer 14 fully-funded scholarships to students from emerging and developing countries (*) with excellent academic backgrounds who will return to their home countries at the end of their professional training process to implement their knowledge.

This award covers:

master program tuition
medical insurance
round-trip airfare from the student's country of residence
monthly stipend for expenses during the student's stay in Barcelona

(*) Note: "Emerging and developing countries" is an expression used to name all countries not included on the following 2008 IMF list of "advanced economies": Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, Cyprus, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hong Kong SAR, Iceland, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Japan, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Portugal, Singapore, Slovenia, South Korea, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Taiwan, United Kingdom, United States of America.

The United Nations University Institute for Sustainability and Peace (UNU-ISP), Tokyo, invites applications for the new intensive 4-week postgraduate programme on "Building Resilience to Climate Change" developed under the framework of the University Network for Climate and Ecosystems Change Adaptation Research (UN-CECAR).

 The new courses, conducted at UNU-ISP, cover a range of issues on sustainability and adaptation to climate and ecosystems change. Topics include:

-  climate and atmospheric science,

-  impacts assessment,

-  climate and society,

-  ecosystems resilience,

-  risk and uncertainty,

-  integrated solutions for mitigation and adaptation,

-  community-based adaptation strategies.

Students also will receive practical training in the use of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and Remote Sensing software.

The research centre IBBT-SMIT at the Free University of Brussels (Vrije Universiteit Brussel) offers a full time PhD position in the field of Social Sciences, more in particular of Media and Communication Studies. The vacancy is open for a research position of 4 years, in order to realize a PhD on the use of social media and social networks sites, the reconfiguration of privacy practices and the social and technological consequences thereof. The position starts in January 2011, and is supervised by Prof. Jo Pierson.
